About this service
Hardwood is one of the most beautiful floors a home can have, and one of the most affected by Canadian winters. Salt and sand tracked in on boots act like sandpaper on the finish, salt residue leaves a white haze, and months of dry furnace air make the surface look tired. Regular mopping often makes it worse, leaving behind streaks and product build-up. Professional hardwood cleaning and polishing brings back the warmth and shine.
Our process
Inspection: we check the type of finish and look for areas of wear, deep scratches or water damage, and tell you honestly what cleaning and polishing can and cannot fix.
Dry soil removal: grit and sand are carefully vacuumed and dust-mopped so they are not dragged across the finish.
Deep cleaning: a hardwood-safe cleaner removes salt film, grime, old product residue and sticky spots, with minimal moisture so the wood is protected.
Polishing: a polish suited to your finish is applied to restore shine, fill fine surface scuffs and add a protective layer.
Drying: we let you know how long to wait before walking on the floor and before putting furniture back.
What it can and cannot do
Cleaning and polishing restores the look of a floor whose finish is still intact: dullness, light scuffs, haze and streaks. It does not remove deep scratches, gouges, grey water stains or worn-through finish. Those need sanding and refinishing by a flooring professional. Waxed, oiled or unfinished floors need different products, so let us know or send photos before booking.
Pricing
Hardwood floor cleaning and polishing is $0.60 per sq ft with a $249 minimum, before tax. It can be booked on its own or added to a deep, spring or move clean, and we always do floors last so they are not walked on during the rest of the clean.
Best time of year
Spring is ideal, once the salt season is over and boots are no longer coming in wet. Fall is the other good window, adding a fresh protective layer before winter starts. Year round, it is a great step before listing a home for sale or after moving out.
Protecting your floors in winter
Use a good mat system at every entrance, take boots off at the door, wipe up salty puddles promptly and avoid steam mops and excess water on hardwood. Felt pads under furniture prevent scratches.

How long before I can walk on the floor?
It depends on the polish and conditions, but floors are usually ready for socks within a few hours. We will tell you exactly when you can walk on it and move furniture back.
Can you remove salt haze from hardwood?
Yes. Removing the white salt film that winter leaves near entrances is one of the most common reasons clients book this service in spring.
Is it safe for engineered hardwood or laminate?
Engineered hardwood with an intact finish can usually be cleaned and polished. Laminate and vinyl need different products; let us know your floor type when booking so we bring the right ones.
